Role Overview :

This position will direct and oversee the operations amongst the departments of Fleet, Facilities, and Materials. The Logistics Manager will work as a direct partner with the Operations Support Director and all related divisions to provide an on-time and on-budget supply chain of assets, materials, and equipment to service the needs of the district departments. This is a position of planning (strategic and tactical) to develop innovative solutions in logistical matters for Fleet, Facilities, and Materials, and execution of plans to produce results. The Logistics Manager contributes to the success of the district by removing barriers to efficiency through their direct oversight of the Fleet, Facilities, and Materials departments.

This position is located in INDOT’s Vincennes District, Logistics Division.

 

Salary :

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $75,010.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Establish long term plans in coordination with several other divisions of the agency to Fleet, Facilities, and Materials.
  • Establish strategic vision as the district’s head resource for the district related to fleet, facilities, and materials.
  • Lead and develop teams and personnel at several levels within the agency through defined metrics.
  • Oversee and manage fleet, facilities, equipment, and material footprints for several site locations and be able to plan the deployment and utilization of these assets/resources to effectively and efficiently support the output of construction and maintenance divisions while mitigating waste in agency resources (labor, fuel, materials, budgetary finds, etc.).
  • Responsible for budgetary planning and performance, including reducing lost efficiency through practices and processes.
  • Hands on in developing and managing maintenance schedules for equipment and facilities. (preventative and corrective maintenance) used to determine budget, equipment and facility needs.
  • Resolve problems associated with transportation and logistics systems that are impeding the flow of materials throughout the enterprise.
  • Develop metrics specific to inventory control and materials handling while supporting safety practices.
  • Oversee and manage fleet, facilities, equipment, and material footprints for district to include shops and buildings & grounds which includes to be able to plan the deployment and utilization of these assets/resources to support the output of various district departments while mitigating waste effectively and efficiently in agency resources (labor, fuel, materials, budgetary funds, etc.).
  • Oversee the budgetary planning, forecasting, and execution for Fleet, Facilities, and Materials
    responsible for coordinating the Logistics Team of Facilities, Fleet, and Materials to ensure resources are provided in a timely and accurate manner to support multiple department operational goals.
  • Responsible for establishment and support of policies, procedures, and SOPS for Fleet, Facilities, and Materials to ensure compliance with INDOT and statewide requirements.
  • Responsible for partnering with department leaders, peers, and others to continually assess needs and improve processes, planning, and performance.
  • Responsible for driving and executing the safety policies for Fleet, Facilities, and Materials departments and personnel.
  • Partner with division and department leaders to continually assess needs and improve processes, planning, and performance.
  • Partner and assist for establishing and driving the safety culture and practices throughout the district.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Management, Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics or a related field with minimum 5 years work experience managing large scale operations, scheduling, budgets, performance metrics, quality control metrics, and continuous improvement processes or applicable experience (One year of relevant experience in addition to the minimum of 5 years of work experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)
  • Preferred previous experience with LEAN methods to reduce waste in process, inventory, and planning.
  • Experience managing large teams including hiring, performance management, and talent development with a proven track record of driving change and producing results.
  • Must possess a high degree of business aptitude and ability to make decisions quickly.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to provide strategic planning and direction to execute goals efficiently and support change initiatives.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and direct Logistics department managers and teams to accomplish department goals and initiatives.
  • Ability to formulate sound management and fiscal recommendations and to make appropriate decisions with consideration to potential impact.
  • Ability to identify trends, analyze data, and propose solutions to problems.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize a variety of projects/functions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with varying levels of management and personnel.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
