Job Title: Network Security Engineer Location: Ft. Belvoir, VA (Onsite) Clearance: Active, in-scope DoD Top Secret (SCI eligible) Certifications: Security+ CE or CISSP, CCNP (or equivalent), Linux or equivalent Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required Kwaan Bear IT Solutions (KBITS) has immediate openings for a Network Security Engineer to join our team at Fort Belvoir, VA. Position Overview KBITS is seeking a Network Security Engineer with 5–7 years of hands-on experience to support secure infrastructure operations for a classified DoD customer. This role combines core network engineering and cybersecurity responsibilities within a collaborative mission environment. Primary Responsibilities Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Juniper, Cisco, and Palo Alto firewalls, routers, and switches across classified environments. Install, administer, and support LAN/WAN infrastructure, ensuring optimized performance and system health. Support remote users with secure connectivity and troubleshoot Layer 2/Layer 3 issues. Monitor system logs, backups, and ensure timely patching and security updates. Manage user accounts and enforce access control policies aligned with cybersecurity standards. Support incident response, vulnerability mitigation, and risk identification activities. Document network procedures, system configurations, and operational standards. Collaborate with internal teams, vendor support, and mission partners to resolve technical challenges. Work independently to manage assigned tasks supporting overall network security posture. Installation, configuration, maintenance, backup, and restoration of cyber defense systems Assisting in identifying, prioritizing, and coordinating the protection of critical cyber defense infrastructure and key resources Building, installing, configuring, and testing dedicated cyber defense hardware and systems Required Qualifications ~ Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility. ~ Bachelor’s degree in IT, Cybersecurity, or related discipline (additional years of relevant experience may substitute). ~5–7 years of experience supporting enterprise networks in DoD, federal, or regulated environments. ~ Current CCNA certification (required). ~ DoD 8140 IAT Level III certification (e.g., CASP+ CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP, GCED, GCIH, CCSP, or CISM). ~ Proficiency in configuring and maintaining Juniper, Cisco, and Palo Alto networking infrastructure. ~ Experience supporting or implementing RMF in DoD environments. ~ Familiarity with vulnerability management, patch compliance, and information assurance requirements. Desired Skills (not required but beneficial) Experience with Linux/UNIX-based systems. Installation and configuration of intrusion detection systems, perimeter defense technologies, or advanced firewall configurations. Participation in Continuity of Operations (COOP) planning and failover testing. Integration of networks with broader enterprise systems. AWS/Azure networking experience. Familiarity with DISA STIGs, Army and DoD regulations. Minimum Education ~ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
